Hello,
The company I work for has handed me this system with the password and the IP address to access the system. They handed it to me in several boxes. I have installed several Nortel and Avaya systems but this one I would like to learn. I know that the system programming is accessed through your browser. But I have it on my test bench and want to log into it directly form my laptop and see what I can do with it. I have changed my IP range to the same range as the BCM and tried connecting through a cross over cable to the port marked 1 and my laptop doesn't see it. I also do not have the expansion mod connected to the main cabnet with the special cable supplied by Nortel. Does that make a difference? What should I do? Once I am in the system I can read the documentation that is on the BCM and figure most of it out. Thanks in advance.

exp mod can be removed - and this has nothing to do with logging on (i suppose)

connect using the serial port and verify the IP addressed on the LAN1/2

Use the serial port to access the system and use menu 2 and then Q to find out the correct IP address of the 2 ports.

I understand what you both are asking. But I have confirmed the I.P address with the IT person. He knows it is correct. My question is why is it not showing the connection between the PC and the BCM. If I connect from my NIC card to port 1 on the bcm I should see some sort of connected lights. Correct me if I am wrong. The three ports on the BCM are port 1 and port 2 then you have the card that has MOH and page on it. Could I be connecting to it wrong? I tried a cross over cable and the PC shows connected then not connected. Then it keeps repeating itself. Should I try using a hub and a normal patch cable? Thank you for all the input so far and taking the time to work with me.

This may be a stupid question but are you using a Cross Over Cable?????

Can you ping the BCM on either PORT?, You do need a crossover cable. The default IP address is 10.10.10.1 and 10.10.11.1 have you tried these?

Again when I'm having the proble your having I use hyperterm 9600, 8, none, 1 to the serial port.

Sorry for not responding sooner. Had to take some time off. Yes I am using a crossover cable. Yes I have tried to ping both ports and nothing. But that is the strange part. When I do connect to the BCM with the crossover cable from the nic on the laptop you see it link then you get a message on your screen that says your network cable has been disconnected. And it does this until you disconnect the cable. But that is without trying to enter any IP address. That happens just connecting the cable to the BCM. If all else fails I guess I will connect using hyperterm as acewarlock has mentioned twice. Any thoughts on the connection issue? I tested the cable and it is correct.

If your system has the bad BFT (Base function Tray) problem you won't beable to login VIA serial or IP. Open the bottom tray and lok at the capacitor's and see if there green or blue, if there green yu have the bad BFT problem.

Verify your internet properties are set to 10.10.11.2/255.255.255.0 using a crossover cable plug into LAN 2 of the BCM. Open internet page address of Good luck

To all of you who have replied,

Ok this really bites. I hyper-termed in and while reviewing went into system config and defaulted the system. I guess this is the first tip on how to factory default a used system. I am just glad that this was not installed. So this should be easy for you guys. What is the user name and password for the system now? I thought it would be eeadmin or ee_admin then the password Pls_Chg_Me! but it did not seem to work. What is next?

Thanks

56BelAir,

I tried to go back in on the hyper-term connection and it will not take anything. I tried entering ee_admin then the password. I tried the old login and password and nothing. I still can't connect to this switch through the cross over cable on port 1 or port 2 then launching internet explorer with the IP. It just shows the green light on the left side of the port and amber on the right side. I know this should not be this much of a problem to connect to. Does anyone of the Nortel guru's have any ideas.

Thanks again for all who are trying.

what software release BCM is this some of the older ones username was supervisor and password was visor if it is a 4.0 username is nnadmin and password is PlsChgMe!

If this is a really old bcm 3.0 or later I believe open web browser address of ee_admin
PlsChgMe!
or
supervisor
eedge! I believe its been a while for this older stuff

Sounds silly but have you rebooted the BCM at all? it likes a good reboot every so often when things start acting up. Also as stated above slide out the base tray in front of BCM if capasitors are leaking you wont be able to access thru a PC only thru a Phone. Try hooking up a phone to it and access thru that just to see if its default programming.

Thanks,

The software is 3.5 and I will try to log in with the other log ins as they are in the last posts. I am pulling the tray now to let you know. Let you know what I find on Monday. Happy Thanksgiving.

56Belair,
I guess I was wrong. It did not wipe the system. After a hard reset I could hyper-term back in using the same log in and password. It tells me the system is a rel. 3.5 Build 2.3b. Lan 1 is configured as 192.168.5.199, 255.255.255.0 and Lan 2 is 10.10.11.1, 255.255.255.0. I pulled the bottom tray out and found no leakage on any boards. Is there away to change the settings to allow me in through a hand set. Right now that feature is turned off. I tried to log in from a set using f**config and Basic and it does not work. It still doesn't make any sense about the lights on my laptop and the BCM though. They should be green not green and amber.

What color were the Caps Green or Blue?

If you got in though the serial, the password will work though the web browser using a crossover on 10.10.11.1.

acewarlock and 56belair,

I think I found the problem. I can ping the BCM using the cmd prompt. I think the problem is with the JAVA settings. Any idea what they should be set at?
