I want to give a coworker the ability to rename a users extension so that she can do this on her own. Currently I do this through BCM Element Manager but I definitely do not want to give her access to this so I am looking for a way to do this through the phone. I have tried following the instructions @ but to no avail ("**266344" gives "Access Denied" and "**797836" doesn't do anything at all). We are running a BCM 400 4.0 system.

Thanks in advance.
P.S. There isn't any way of allowing extension names of over 7 characters, is there?

The phone log in is **266344, then 738662 then your password, if you log into EM check on your account and create a password for telset admin. also make sue tel set admin is enabled.

Thanks endlesswinter. I set a telset password in BCM EM and the account is already part of ID 1009 group Administrator but it is still giving me "Access Denied" right when I enter F**266344 (I have closed EM for a few minutes before trying it). I'm not sure where exactly to check if "telset admin" is enabled - could someone direct me?

F9*8 eh? No I was not! I tried it now and I can log in, but from there what do I do to rename a users extension? I'll keep playing with it but if anyone would care to enlighten me I would be much obliged.

You can give her an element manager login that is restricted so she can't change anything important. I think you can get into more trouble through a phone.

Good point bluemr2. Lets see if I can figure out how to create her a restricted account in Element Manager. Can anyone tell me what group I need to ad her to in EM to lock her down significantly? All I need to give her is basic access to rename extensions and perhaps other minor things.

you must program from aT7316 or M7324. You will get denied if you attemt to access programing from 7208.

That was the problem endlesswinter! I have a 1120E IP Phone. I tried it from another digital phone and I was not told "Access Denied". Thanks!

As for user groups - is "Power User" what I would need to give? Everything else doesn't seem to allow usernames to be renamed (I tried all the groups). Power User sure does seem to give a lot of access though.

I guess I can create a new telset ID for her and give her Power User access - that would lock her down a bit and still allow her to rename extensions w/o the need for the software - am I correct?

Thanks Deweyhumbolt for answering my PS question. I was afraid that 7 was the max but was hoping there was a way to increase it. Some people's first names are longer than 7 characters with no short form name possible either.

Ok after some testing I see now that "Power User" is sufficient for EM logins but not for telset logins (Denied in Admin is shown for telset). So if I want to go the telset way I need to give her full blown Administrator group access.

I also see that Voice Administrator (1013) and Power User (1014) both allow you to rename an extension in EM. Which of these two gives less overall access to make changes?
