We just bought a new bcm 400 with 1 dtm, 2 dsm32+, and 1 ASM 8.

Our installer decided to not install our phone system so we want to try to do it ourselves. We are a telecom company, made our own voice mail system and now sell ivr's to pharmacies, so we do a lot about telecom.

Are there any books I can get to read up on installed the bcm? I have the manual where is hows all the dip settings but i want to make sure i set everything up correctly.

thanx for your help!

Set your DTM as Bus 7, Your DSM32+ as bus 2 and the ASM8 as Bus 5 (this leaves bus 6 open for future trunk and bus 3&4 for future sets). All offsets are 0.

Thank you!

I have 2 DSM32+'s. Are they both supposed to be set for bus 2?

Does it matter which bays the devices go in?

To help me understand some of the things, what are the offsets for? Meaning, what scenario would require me to use offsets?

No set the other one as BUS 3, they each take 1 BUS.

Doesn't make any differance which slot you put them in.

you would only need to use the offset if you added another ASM8, you would use offset 1.

DSM32+ #1 should be Bus 2. The second should be bus 3. Sorry, I didn't read what I was reading....should open my eyes a little more I guess. Each DSM32+ takes up 1 full Bus.

Physical bays are irrelavent to Bus #. I usually put DTMs at the bottom (in line with the LAN ports) and DSM's at the top.

Offsets would be used in your case if you wanted to add another ASM. Since an ASM uses 1/2 of a Bus, you could add another one set to Bus 5 offset 2 and have 8 more analog ports.

Hope that helps.

One 32+ goes on bus 2, the other goes on bus 3. The offsets are to put more than 1 media bay module on the same bus. Each bus has 32 timeslots, so a 32+ takes the whole bus. You could put 4 GASM 8's on the same bus. 1 at offset 0,1,2, and 3. You can put up to 24 lines on 1 bus also. It doesn't matter which bays the media bay modules go into as long as the dip switch setting are correct. Complete docs for the system are on the bcm.
