I have been trying to do backups on a 3.6 BCM 400 with a computer that has been added to a domain. I have been able to backup with a different computer in a workgroup only, no problem. I have taken the problem computer off the domain and set it up as a workgroup only and the problem remains. I get an error saying I don't have permission. I have been over and over the permissions and am logging in as Administrator. I set it up with a password and with no password....error is the same. Administrator has all Admin privileges including write checked. Can someone either help me figure how to do a backup while on a domain (preferred, since that is the normal state of my computer) or assist me in getting back out to workgroup status. This is a laptop I use at customer sites as well as in my office on our corporate network. I have had this problem at a few sites so it is not the specific BCM...its definitely the laptop.

Any advice will be GREATLY appreciated.

Is this a local domain?

when you enter the credentials in the BCM to access the shared folder you need to add:

\\domain name\domain username (possibly without the leading "\\" -- I forget) as the username

domain password as the password

When I say domain, I am referring to the domain that the laptop has been assigned to for purposes of connecting to my company's network.

I do not want to connect using the domain, I still want to log in as administrator on the laptop as a local user. The problem is that once it has been joined to a domain, even if I am logged in as administrator, somehow my administrator credentials do not work while attempting to backup using the BRU. My problem occurs while on customer sites, so I don't want to use my company's domain as part of the login to the BRU. I am backing up using a LAN port on the BCM itself.

What appears to be happening is that there is some credential that is residual and overrides the local credential. Hence the error message.

I have used another laptop that was on the domain and removed all domain membership and domain credentials in user accounts and it still errors out. As I said in the original post...if the computer was never on a domain, no issues with BRU.

Thanks for the replies...

I figured out the problem....tested on both laptops - one workgroup only computer and one which has been attached to a domain - logging in as Administrator on both;

Between implementing the instructions on one of the FAQ's for XP issues (1361-5457) on this forum first, then addressing sharing properties via computer management the issue is resolved. It seems that setting the sharing properties through windows explorer doesn't quite do it.

Control Panel/Administrative Tools/Computer Management/Shared Folders/Shares - check all boxes
