Upgrade from 3.0 to 3.6 failed due to the green cap problem. Replaced base tray (not MSC card though), but had issues recovering vmail. Replaced hard drive loaded with 3.7 build 2.4f and the sytem works ok, Callpilot VM works OK. Problem is after logging into the BCM Configure module, I cannot access Telephony Services, get error in pop-up "Telephony Programming is currently not available. Please try again later." When looking in services manager the VoiceManagementSubsystem is not started. I can start it but stops when attempting to access Telephony Services. I suspect here is a driver or communications type issue communicating with the MSC card that was not done updated due to the Hard drive swap. I am able to program telephony services via a handset. Any ideas out there?

Did you Ini the MSC?

You may need to do a complete new setup,by doing

1 Platform Initialization
2 MSC upload Menu

Hello Acewarlock, finally got the opportunity to upload the MSC software. It worked, and the bonus is I didn't lose any voicemail or keycodes. Thanks again.

2524076,

I have to change out both of my drives per nortels suggestion and have to do this same procedure but an a little confused because in the boot it says.

"If the initialization process detects a core software load mismatch between the MSC and the hard disk, the system displays a menu screen that prompts you to enter the most appropriate core load (see Figure 118 on page 239). The load on the MSC is the most recent load (if you replaced the hard disk). Select menu option 6 “Do not select any load” to by-pass the core upload and continue with the initialization process".

Is option 6 what you selected to keep all the programing? I might just be reading to much into this statement but it not totally clear to me. It seems like option 6 will leave the msc alone and i will keep my current load.

Sorry if it seems like a dumb question, but I don't want to take any chances with it.

Best Regards

Also if you are using a PRI you may need to get the power adapter upgrade. Without this your stations will be up for awhile and then back down. The only resolultion is the power y-cable upgrade.

Not trying to be a smarta**, but did I miss something?

You can select the core load for your region - if prompted for that when doing a universal profile, no programming will be lost.

I didn't understand his answer either, i think it was for another thread. Why do you have to change out both Hard drives?

My upgrade failed during the 3.0 to 3.6 upgrade, it failed during the final step called Initialization. Because it failed at this point the upload of the latest MSC software did not take place. Because of the capacitor problem the system was basically dead and the path of least resistance was to replace the HD with version 3.7. Be4cause the latest software but a downlevel MSC software version I could not access the telephony program, i.e. the VoiceManagementSubststem service would not start.
To fix this I followed acewarlock's advice. Telnet or Putty in, Select Platform Initialization, then MSC upload and select the US Etiquette version. I didn't lose any programming or keycodes. Be patient during this upload!

I made a separate post with my problem this morning, I cant get ip set id 6 to fully come online.

I have to change both hard drives because Nortel has no idea what to do, and they think the drives are messed up causing my ip set issue (stab in the dark). I see no indication of it, but they sent me 2 free hard drives and the boss says do it.

You might want to check out thread 1361-1261328 for background info. He & I had a similar problem.
