Here's what I have.BCM 3.6 hard drive died.Got 4.0 drive and 3.6 to 4.0 upgrade auth code.Put drive in,and it came up.But I can't see active sets or telephony resourses.The msc still thinks its 3.6.Any ideas?Thanks.

The 3.6 to 4.0 upgrade auth code is only for use on a 3.6 system to upgrade it to 4.0, keeping your original database.

In your case, you would have to rebuild the system from scratch, but the keycode should now be a *.lic file, which you have to upload via elememt manager in the keycode section. The keycode can, I understand be entered via a telset.

Until the keycode has been accepted, you won't be able to see any sets, etc.

All the best

Useful Nortel forum at
If it's working, then leave it alone!.

To force the MSC core to upload simply install the latest SU_system(su20 is good..), that should do it.

Be careful putting a 4.0 drive in a 3.6 system then upgrading the core erases the MSC

you will also need to upgrade the motherboard bios, the instructions are on nortel website

If its not broke tweak it..

Nortel says forcing the core won't erase the MSC.I don't think I agree.

Did you tell them the core was still at 3.6 ?

If its not broke tweak it..

TLDuk, I have done this myself with no issues. In my case Nortel had to get into the system and do the MSC upload. I have not heard any complaints from any of our other techs about that.

Im going to try this again on my test system maybe i`m mistaken ?

Is there no way to force the core myself?Without calling Nortel.

As GBerger stated loading a SU_System will force an MSC core upload. I have done this without wiping the database once. The second switch I tried it on defaulted and had to be reprogrammed. So I guess the question is "Do you feel lucky?".

Nortel did the core upload today and all programming was there when finished. We'll see if I can be lucky enough for the one I have to do next week.

You will need to do a MSC upload to the new hard drive.
If you don't have your current 3.6 keycodes you can retrieve it from notel's website using the sysID. Once
your MSC upload is done(this marries the HD and MSC). Your
telephony programming will be available to view under Element Manager. Just enter your new keycodes to the new hd.
You 3.6 to 4.0 auth code is needed to convert from 3.6 format keycode to 4.0 format. Good luck
