I got a BCM 3.6 that has corrupt files on the root drive (C:), so the system won't boot. I don't want to reimage because of the loss of voicemails, auto attendants, etc.

I know there is a Maintenance OS that you can access during boot. But if I select I only get the blue screen that shows Microsoft Windows NT (blah blah blah), the same that should show when just running the BCM OS.

Can I do anything with the maintenance OS? Example: Can it reinstall the embedded NT Operating System? Does anyone know how to get access to some maintenance options when selecting the maintenance OS?

Thanks!

I've recently been playing with some old BCM 200 systems that weren't working. I also attached a monitor and keyboard etc to try and get them working. If you see the BIOS and Nortel Networks screen OK, then a blue screen it would mean that your BIOS and hard disk is OK. Can you get onto the system via the Serial port OK?. This would help you decide if the database is corrupted or not.

You might be lucky by trying to get another hard disk at 3.6 and finding out if you can copy the Active partition from the original disk onto the replacement disk?.

All the best

If it's working, then leave it alone!.

Probably too late now, but all the more reason to be sure you're backing up your system regularly. Yes - backing up 3.6 is a pain in the rear, but it's just good practice.

You *may* be able to reimage the C:\ partition from a 3.6 image ISO using Ghost.

Well.. The customer is going a different direction. thank god.. The BCM platform (3.x) is sliding downhill fast. Hard drives, power supplies, etc, are just failing.. Seems the MTBF timer has hit...

BCM 3.6/3.7 has been EOL'ed for a very long time.

Only solution is to upgrade to a BCM450 R6 - but I'd also replace the power supply and hard drive as well (along with the BFT - but that's part of the upgrade).

Be careful i have imaged several new hard drives for 3.6 3.7 systems and these newer drives have tacked the PSU over the edge on first power-up my advise would be to replace the PSU with the Drive

If its not broke tweak it..

Power Supplies and Hard Drives (With the Imaging tool) and the BCM will go forever. The old BCM's 200/400 and early BCM 50's had the home grade Maxtor Drives that fail quickly compared the Seagates they finally installed.

I have a customer with a 2.5 BCM with the original 8.4 gig Seagate drive. I installed it in April, 2002. It's still running on all original parts.

Now that I typed this out I expect it to implode any day now.

$500.00 will get you a power supply and Hard Drive for the BCM. It is then just time to image the drive with 3.6 and restore the database and patches. Then it will run for years again.
