Hi.

I have 2 BS460's that have frozen on bootup at the same point when the console reads "Completing Initialization". All lights in front remain lit and orange.

Here's a print screen.

Is there anyway to revive this switch?

Thanks.

Have a Hyperterminal session open once you console to the switch.
Reboot the switch and control C ( Break sequence ) before the post test runs.
Press I ( and you will be prompted to erase the NVRAM) press Y for Yes.
We had some issue with our switches and this is the step we take before we have to RMA the units.

Thanks. I'll try that.

Is this particular problem common? I've had 2 switches fail for the same reason.

The interesting thing is that both were set as the base unit in their respective stacks and both had the 2-port GBIC MDAs. The stacks in question are in separate buildings.

Coincidence?

Have you recently upgraded the firmware on the switch (or upgraded it at any time)? Nortel's knowledgebase says that you have to step through certain prior firmware upgrades to get to the 3.6 level because of configuration corruption issues.

ecuamer, did the initialization work for you or did you end up RMAing the units?

To answer curtismo, the switches were upgraded out of the box before any configuration changes were made.
