All,

I have a stack of 3 450-24T swithes that has crashed three times, reason unknown at the moment.
I have about 4 other stacks with the same number in the statck with the FW - 1.48 SW - 4.2.0.12.
I cannot anything in the log either.

Has anyone had a similar problem or can anyone suggest anything......

TIA

When you say crashed, what happens ? Do the lights on the front change ? i/e base unit ? Does the stack reboot ?

I just lose connectivity to the stack and have to get someone to reboot the stack as I am not based on the same site and no one can console into the stack to check what is happening.

Next time you lose connectivity , can you get someone to check the cascade lights are all green and solid. Also check the base unit light is on the correct stack. From that we should be able to work out whats going on

thanks for the help I will get some one to check this next time. the last the stack crashed was now 11days ago.

Just an FYI...

We have had issues with loosing management of many of our stacks. It was with earlier versions of code. A ticket was opened with Nortel and it was resolved with a code update.

Really strange...we could use the console port with no problems but could not telnet. These were existing stacks that at one point we could manage without issue.

does anyone use HP Openview or similar to manage their switches ? Does unmanaging the switch make any difference ?

I found that the 4.0 and 4.1 versions of Baystack 450 code were VERY slow to repond to management, JDM was almost useless and telnet was noticably slower than version 3.1.1 Version 4.2.0.22 is better but still not as quick as 3.1

Nortel has released version 4.4 although I have not tried it yet.

I tried to remain child-like, all I acheived was childish.

Re: Managing the switch

You could set up a log server to check the switch messages.
I manage the switches/routers with Optivity.
