I've recently acquired a 350t-hd, and have thus far been unable to access the CI screen. I've setup a hyperterminal session to use com1 at 9600 8-none-1 vt100, and all I get is a blank screen??
ithe manual says to type ctrl-C to get the logon prompt, but I get nothing. no errors, so nothing, just a blank hyperterminal screen.

Is it possible the previous user has disabled this interface?
is there anything that I'm obviously doing wrong?

The rest of the switch (the 24 switched ports) all seem to function flawlessly....so what's the likelihood that the db9 connection, or that "piece" of the switch is just broken?

also, as I'm not the original owner, I'm kinda screwed as far as support from nortel goes, so any suggestions would be greatly appreciated...

Thanks!

Update::
I've had our network guy look at it, and he determined the comm is either turned off, or not functioning. (apparently this is a feature on cisco switches, but he was unsure about nortel/bay stuff)

so...

is anyone aware if this IS a possibility? (to turn of the comm)

and is there a way to reverse it, if you don't know the IP of the switch?

is there a "master reset"? (such as a bios flash/clear?

ANYTHOUGHTS?

Thanks

Try control-y to activate the logon process.
What kind of a serial cable are you using.....Nortel or a generic cable? Rick Harris

I've tried ctrl-everything and nothing changes the screen at all. I've used a number of different straight through cables, as well as a crossover (I was desperate)

is there anything especially different about a Nortel (brand) cable?

Most 'networking' serial cables are crossover, Nortel expects straight through, so for a cable that works on Cisco, add a null modem adaptor.

while 9600 is the default, someone could have set the speed from 300 to 19200

Control Y is your best shot, for reasons best expressed as "VOODOO" I have better luck with upper case control letters than lower case control codes

Hyperterminal in my experience is odd in that you can set the COMM ports and get no change, then the NEXT time you enter the program they take effect I tried to remain child-like, all I acheived was childish.

If you feel the console cable is ok. then reset the switch with console attached to it. and notice if you get the boot sequence.
some time it do happen that switch start transfering th' console on reset.

I have same experience, cannot see even the Nortel logo from my Baystack 450 from Windows HyperTerminal 9600-8-N-1, cable is DB9 - DB9 streight. I also tried change speed 2400,4800,9600,19200 and 38400.

Any luck after all?

I will be glad if you could tell me how did you make it.

actually, I did get it working, I ended up using a cat-5 patch cable, attached on each end to a db9 adapter.
plugged it up, worked like a champ.
hope this helps
