Fellas! I finally have seen the hyperterminal screen on this switch:Baystack 310-24T. With your help; you've directed me on getting the right cable, etc. But now I'm stuck. I can't get past the password. I don't have it. How can I reset the password without calling the manufacturer, as that's what the manual says. Please help guys. I'm waiting, hoping that I get past this final stage.
Thanks!!!!!

Depending on the model, version, and age of the system there are a number of things that -might- work, here's what I remember other people trying with various amounts of success:

I assume you've tried the default password? I think it used to be 'secure', Nortel's web site may still have docs for these devices.

From a cold-boot at the console type 'NetICs' and press return. I'm not sure if its within a few seconds of power-on or at the login prompt so try both.

If this is a model that can be stacked with other switches put it in the stack as a non-master and it will get the config of the rest of the stack.

Some systems have a boot menu that you can access within the first few seconds of booting, usually there is an on-screen prompt and sometimes there is an option there to clear the config.

I remember someone saying that some models have a jumper that can be shorted, either at bootup or during login - I might be thinking of their old hubs - you'd have to look (be careful!).

Other people have had the good fortune of not knowing the passwords but having the SNMP community strings enabled and left at the default settings. If you're also so lucky you can use Nortel's Device Manager software to push out a blank config.

Otherwise Nortel might be able to generate a back-door password based on the serial number and MAC address.

anthonyanderberg thanks a lot for your response. I will try the things you've suggested here., But please, if you could, explain how I could proceed with using: "Nortel's Device Manager software to push out a blank config".

I also note that there were, at the time of my reading, 6 responses to the thread, but yours was the only one that I can see. Do you know how I could read the others, please?

Kind regards

I only saw 2 responses when I read this post, including your response to anthonyanderberg. My post makes 3 responses.

You can try this to factory default the box...note: this works for all BPS2K and BS350+ and a few other switches not sure if it will work on the 310 series.

connect to the console
reboot the switch
press CTRL+C when you see the diag test line
select i (default the switch)
choose yes (erease flash)
select a (runs the agent code)

it should reboot after a few, after the reboot, it will be factory default.

Hey guys, I've tried this but it's not working so far. From terminal:

Enter '.<RETURN>' to go to Boot Options Menu
Booting Switch software
Decompressing ...

Eventually, it ask for a password. I hit the CRTL-C command just when I see:
Enter '.<RETURN>' to go to Boot Options Menu

Please help!

try CTRL+C when you see Power On Seft Test, you only have 3 seconds to enter the command from when you see POST and the 1st test.

What happens if you type a .<RETURN>? According to the POST message this should take you to a boot options menu.
