This is an old piece of kit we (Still!)use a central switch. Every 30 minutes, 24 hours a day, the switch times out for 30-40 seconds. CPU usage stays around 90-100%, then returns to a normal later on. It is linked to another Accelar via fiber. The other switch is operating o.k. Despite moving a large number of high-usage servers off the troublesome one, the problem still remains. Anyone have any suggestions why this occurs?

Its possible you've got a blade that has some ports flopping randomly. Look at the log files in the switch and see if there's port up and down conditions on any blade where PC's or servers aren't being turned on and or off.

If that doesn't settle the issue, it could be some of the items on the switch or the spanning tree group(s) should be segregated and the BPDU's of each staggered. There's so many places this type of issue could erect from, I'm unsure but look at these items for starters.
