Date and time on computer kept resetting and received CMOS error on bootup. I purchased new corresponding coin type battery for replacement. When I opened the case and located the old battery, I noticed how loose the tension strap was against the old battery. I went ahead and replaced the battery, but still have no tension for connection. I still receive the bootup error and incorrect time. Temporarily I have captured the CMOS settings for safety and have left the computer powered on continously. What are my options for a temporary and permanent fix?

Try bending the strap down just a little bit with the battery removed and you should be fine. Jay [infinity]

I did try bending with no luck. I may have not put enough force trying not to break it off.

you can bend it down till it touches the other contact, just be careful...it's only got a gap of 3/16". So you should have to worry too much. You may have to press down a couple times to get it to take. Jay [infinity]
