My understanding is that SAP is designed to operate in real time via RF. Is it therefore possible to implement a batch solution which would periodically upload transactions to SAP?

Thanks

Thanks,

So is their a specific SAP Batch application for Pocket PC or DOS Hand held scanners or must one be custom made?

If you are able to provide some sort of insight as to what is physically required it would be appreciated. We in the process of investigating the options.

Thanks

SAP is releasing a new product called Mobile Engine in Enterprise release, Kernel Build 4.7, WEB Application Server 6.30 that will replace 3rd party batch/middleware RF products.

You are not dependant to use 3rd party middleware for prior releases of SAP, you can develop your own JAVA, C++ or VB applications that connects directly to SAP and deploy it on handheld devices. These applications can be developed to be uploaded with data from an ABAP extract program and in turn can download data to SAP that can be processed in SAP by calling a BAPI or callable Function Module via RFC. Error trapping can still be handled via Workflow or processed real-time when the terminal connects with SAP.

In both strategies you get batch mode functionality without the drawbacks of using failure prone middleware. Companies’ nowadays invest more in infrastructure to ensure SAP uptime than what they will invest for middleware servers. Another advantage is that you will not have to deal with dreaded IDOC failures.

Keep your eyes on SAP's NetWeaver strategy - for some tantalizing new trends.

Sure you can.

SAP lists 3 different ways to upload transactions:
1> Batch input
2> Call transaction
3> Direct Input (Not advisible)

Many thanks for the replies, a great help
