Hi everyone,

I'm a UNIX newbie and I need to write a simple batch file on HP-UX. Can you tell me any tips or starting point ideas? Where can I get information about how to write a script/batch file?

Thanks in advance,

Thakan, it's a big subject. By 'batch file' I assume you mean a script to do something on a regular basis? You could try looking in the Unix Scripting forum on Tek-Tips for ideas. Also look at for purpose made scripts (some may need a little modification to run, depending on flavour of *nix) which may suit your needs. Post here or in the scripting forum (preferably not both) with some idea of what you're trying to achieve and someone will no doubt give you an idea to get you up and running. Cheers.

Thank you Ken, I'm gonna try to write a backup/restore script for our special purpose as you say in order to use it on a regular basis, there are too many examples on shelldorado that can help me on that purpose. I'll send a post if I need further help... Thanks again for your helpful post.
