Hi. Im new to indesign cs2. I followed the help for making a TOC, but I only get a blank box with just the TOC title. I made para styles for a number of elements, assigned them, and I should be able to get a TOC, right? Does it require page numbers on the master page to create the TOC?

any help appreciated.thanks, Cliff

1)Did you include the paragraph styles under Layout/Table of Content...?
You need to add the available styles from the list on the right to the left.
2)You do not need auto page numbers on the master pages.

Thanks....

I did do that. Its weird - I opened up a new file and did the same exact procedure and it worked, so I figure there is something unique about my text frame that is causing the issue. Im going to recreate the doc and start over.

On a related note to the text frame, Im not completely comfortable with making text boxes that automatically add new pages as the boxes fill. Ive read the help, but somehow it hasnt worked just right yet. although I love the new indesign, this was much more direct in Quark. But I had been using quark since 3.1 I think!
