I'm an SMS noob.

SMS should have the ability to distribute (push) its client, right? I've navigated to collections and made multiple attempts to push the client out but I see no new nodes appearing in collections after the pushing is completed....

It's always something, right?

Thanks in advance,

SmAu6

Are you trying to push legacy or advanced clients? If advanced then you need to configure a MP in the site. Also you will need IIS running. You might also check to be sure you have an SLP specified.

Trying to push adv client. Is MP a management point? IIS needs to be running on client or server? SLP?

I'm also looking for a freebie msi editor. Know where I can find one?

I don't know about the msi editor. Maybe someone else does...
MP is management point. SLP is server locator point. IIS needs to be running on the server. I'm just telling from what I have experienced. I don't have that much experience so everyone else feel free too :)

SLP was missing....

IIS is installed. Does IIS require any config?

Server was already MP.

Gonna try another push.

Latez & thanx,

Me again....

I'm getting no indication other than no change in collection memebers after attempting to push. Isn't there a log file somwhere I can review?

Thx again!

Latez,

Is it just me or was SMS designed to be as convoluded as possible?!?!?! F@#$ing MS!!!! t(-_-)t >:|

Did they get installed then? There is a log that you can view. I think it's called ccmsetup.log. You should check out the forum at myitforum.com sometime. They have a lot of information on that site about SMS 2003. Ok back to the issue.
Did you update the collection information? And yes it definitely is convoluded! :-

I loaded some of the latest windows updates late yesterday afternoon and rebooted the server. I also ran the 'update collection membershit' and then hit F5. A whole bunch of clients popped up.... OK, fine and dandy... Now onto figuring out package distribution. What a pain in the neck.... I'm burning out. I could have manually installed the software I'm trying to push 2 ir 3 times by now....

I'm definetly purchasing the GFI LANGuard software. It basically does the same thing (software distribution) and it has a security scanner which updates itself across the Net to stay current AND it only costs $500!
