Basic shortcuts no longer work

I recently opened up one of my files and I have found out that I'm no longer able to do the basic commands like Ctrl O to open a new doc. Ctrl P to print anything, Ctrl 0 to fit in view. None of the shortcuts work!!! I'm restricted to only using the menu bar on top. This is very frustrating since I have not used the menu bar in years, I've been using shortcuts forever. I'm sure there is a very simple soultion.

...have you tried resetting the preferences file?

that or just restart the program all together. This type of glitching happens in our offices quite a bit especially if we are working with larger more complex files.
