Hi all

We've been saddled with an old Mitel 3300 ICP, running software version 7.0.8.5.
I've come from using an Asterisk system, so the terminology is a bit different and I'm struggling to configure some stuff that should be pretty simple

The office's telephony requirements aren't huge, but recently we've changed things a bit and need to add in a Ring Group.
We have 4 x ISDN lines and a DiD coming in to the system. Currently every call on an ISDN number rings a pickup group (1), but DiD calls go right to the relevant extension.
We also have a 1300 number, which has been pointed to a specific extension (210).
What I'd like is for every call to that 1300 numebr to ring a group of specified extensions. Ideally the name of the Pickup Group would also appear on the display.

Challengs I can see;
* This sounds like a Ring Group, but our system doesn't seem to have those (not under System Admin / Call Handling, or anywhere else I can see). We DO have Hunt Groups and Pickup Groups, which both sound like they may be viable?
* When I looked at a Hunt Group, I was able to create a HG at extension 210. But when that is dialled only one of the four assigned extensions ring? I've tried setting the HG to circular and terminal, but no joy. Also, I am unable to name the HG, even with the "Type" set to "Name Tag". There's already an existing HG (for voicemail) with a name - so I'm unsure why I can't name this new one. The text box to set the name is permanently disabled.
* I tried to create a Pickup Group (2). I was able to name this and add the relevant extension, so that looks good - but how can I set it such that all calls to extension 210 get rerouted to this pickup group? I cannot set 210 up as a normal extension (as there is no device for it, it would just be a 'virtual' extension). I'm unsure how to setup call routing for an extension number that doesn't, strictly speaking, exst.

Sorry for the long post, I tried to put as much information in as possible.
If anyone is able to offer any assistance or ideas, it would be much appreciated

Regards,
Sam

Ring groups came with release 8 I think. before that you had hunt groups only which as you have found are quitre different. What you need is multicall keys on the phone. Set each key to the same DN as the 1300 number. You can set them to ring, delay ring and no ring in programming. You don't get a group name with this method but you may well be able to name the DN as relevant name in telephone directory and get this to appear...not sure with non prime lines TBH.

Hi mate

Thanks for the advice, much appreciated.
That seems like I'm on the right track. But I can only assign a softkey on one phone at a time to the directory number (210).
When I try to assign a softkey on a second phone, the error message reads "This directory number is currently programmed as another type of group".

I assume this is because I am selecting the wrong 'Line Type'. Currently I'm selecting Single Line.
The help feature in this version of System Admnistration locks up IE every time I open it (and doesn't work in any other browser) so I'm not sure which Line Type I should use.

Likely looking candidates are;
Key System, Multicall, Call Announce, User Speeccall, Paging, Call Pickup

Which would be the most appropriate? Also, would any of them have the Telephone DN show up on the handset? I have created a DN as per your instruction, and named it, but it doesn't show on the handset when rung.
I have enabled and disbaled the 'Prime Name' feature, but that makes no difference. I cannot enable the 'Privacy' feature on this DN. When I try, I get an error saying "This entry cannot be made Private. Please correct".

If anyone knows he most appropriate Line Type to use for a Ring Group (equivalent) in Mitel v7, that would be appreciated

Cheers,
Sam

Seriously , I would pay someone to come and upgrade it .
Unless its a discontinued model ( LX or MX) you should be able to get it done without too much expense.

Those older versions are problematic to say the least

If I never did anything I'd never done before , I'd never do anything.....

You are a version above me, and I have Ring Groups. Select it to display the modules alphabetically, and you will see it there. I am struggling right now because I need to put extensions from another controller in my ring groups and my build Ver 6 doesn't allow it. It looks like you are Ver 7, and it is available on that build per others on this forum.

As for the name being disabled, the same goes for Ring Groups. The way to name the Ring Group is to add that extension to the Telephone Directory and name it there. When I call the ring group, the caller ID shows the RIng Group name as the call is ringing in. Then when you pick up you get true Caller ID.

Hope this helps,
Trent

Just checked a 7.0.22.5_5 system and no ring groups in there...though I was going mad for a minute.

Hi guys

Appreciate the help. Unfortunately Ring Groups are definitely not on my version, I ordered everything alphabetically but no luck.

Wireman was right on the money, Multicall got me going. No name on the display unfortunately, but all lines ring and it generally acts as a Ring Group, so that'll do for me.

The system is being replaced in the new year (so I'm told) so I doubt I could find budget for an upgrade. You're right though, it is pretty problematic, the web interface is a nightmare

Cheers all

There's a COS option to display Caller ID on multicall/keylines which would show you the group name...
