I'm using a 2003 box as a print server.. just wondering if there is something simple out there that could do email or some kind of alert when printers change to certain status.. like jam and what'not..

thanks!

Most printer models come with mgmt software that you can install on your machine and use it as a console to manage your network printers. The software can tell you everything from when the toner is low to paper jams. HP and Lexmark have their own mgmt software. Hope this helps

I havent struck any tools like that before, but the Printer Management Console (Part of Windows 2003 R2) has a view that sorts printers listing those that need attention (like having a jam or being out of paper)

On the print server, using Perfmon you can create a couple of Perforamnce Alerts against the Print Server / Not Ready and Print Server / Out of Paper counters and get it to either net send you a message or use a command line tool to email you.

Havent tried this before; I just found the counters and I see no reason why it wouldnt work.
