Hello there, I'm looking to buy some switches, and came across these 3com ones. I'm after a switch that I can restrict access to the network based on MAC address, and I just can't find an answer (even phoned 3com, they said they would find out if this one does the job and phone me back, but never did)
Anywho it says in the description:

"In addition, the web interface features individual port-traffic monitoring (port mirroring) and MAC address port mapping tables."

But no-one seems to know what MAC address port mapping tables are?

Does anyone know about this coz it's really starting to bug me now.

Hello,

I think 3com hasen't got port mapping like cisco and linksys.
But you could try to make a mac filter VLAN based.
So if a mac address is in the filter it will go from the default VLAN to the other VLAN and in that VLAN the is you DHCP and Gateway.
Ask 3com if the 2948-SFP can do the VLAN filter mac based.

here's a manual of your 2948.

Thanks Bas,
I've had a look at the user guide, and it's opened up a whole new set of questions, I am currently getting 3com themselves to have a look, hopefully they will call me back at some point.
