My old bars parcer '97 doesn't seem to work properly now that I have MS '07 on my PC.

When I try and do a "save as" the file is empty and prompts me to reload the original text file again.

It parces the file but again it won't let me save the document.

Any ideas?

Hi,

What is a "bars parser?"

Is this the Text to Columns feature?

Please describe how you are using it, also.

thanks for the reply Skip.
I save a txt file on my desktop then open the barsparcer file (barpar.97 xls) It opens a browser window and I select the txt file from my desktop.

It parces the txt file into an EXCEL spreadsheet. When I do a "save as" to save the Excel doc on my desktop it acts like it saves the parced data but when I open the saved file it just runs the parcer again. My saved data is not visible.

Previously I was doing all this in MS Office '03 and it worked well. Now I'm doing it in MS '07 and it parces okay
just doesn't provide me with a workable Excel spreadsheet which is my goal.

I have been advised to do a copy and paste of the original parced txt file and paste it into a Excel spreadsheet.

Is the text file you parse, ALWAYS the same column formats?

I don't know where it actually is in 2007, but there is a DATA IMPORT feature, where you can specify the parsing, using the Data Import Wizard. Once you figure out how it works and how your text file ought to be parsed, THEN turn on the macro recorder and record the process. THIS workbook, will then become your new BarsParser.

In 2007, go to the Data Ribbon. In the Get External Data section (at the left), click on From Text.
