I just moved to an installation that uses TSM (i have been used to Netbackup)

On one of the projects I am on they are implementing a Bare Metal Restore procedure around HP's Ignite server.

Isn't Bare Metal Restore supported by TSM?
Or isn't is a good solution?

I hope someone has an advice and some information to the "new kid on the block"

Hi

If remember rightly, Ignite can provide an excellent BMR solution and could tie in with TSM nicely.

Ignite can be used to perform OS-installation of HP-UX using software packages on an Ignite server; upon completion, custom scripts would kick off TSM client restore processes.

Very tidy :)

Have Fun !

Thanks

I just wonder why we don't use TSM for everything to have a single platform.
And since we have almost everything in computers in our datacenter I (as the new kid on the block) just wonder why we use different solutions to different platforms when we could use a single platform.

Ignite will solve the problem. No problem in that.

Hi,
there is a separate partner product CBMR (Cristie Bare Machine Recovery) available for Windows, Linux, Solaris and HP-UX.

For Windows there is additionally the Microsoft ASR method. It is also possible to create Online Image Backups from the c:\ partition and restore it with a Windows PE CD.
