Barcode Recognition - Fax

I am developing a prototype for a system with a basic process flow as follows:

A user is logged into the system and prints out a fax cover sheet. The cover sheet must include the user id of that person as well as the document type (eg. A, B, C or D).

The person will fax in the cover sheet along with a document.

The system must then recognize the cover sheet to attach the user id as well as the document type to the document being faxed in.

We are currently using RightFax as our doucment imaging system so any recognition software would need to be integrated with that.

Does anyone have experience in printing a bar code and then being able to recognize that bar code as it is faxed in? Can anyone recomentd a particular vendor? I open to other suggestions (OCR?) if barcode is not the way to go.
