Our BAOF logs a message in the Arcserve log (0000's of times), that it has SUCCESSFULLY backed up an open file. But the files in question are NOT open. Our log files/and databases are growing rapidly. The only solution it seems is to turn off the advanced features in BAOF.
(We have 10+ servers backing up over fibre to the SAN to 4 libraries, etc,etc
(I suppose I should be grateful that Arcserve has even backed up the file (most of the time the backups don't even start - but I won't even go down that road.)

Is there any fix to my problem ?

PS We are currently thinking of cutting our losses and going to ComVault - has anyone got anything good (or bad) to say about this option ?

Some process on those machines is implementing a file lock, that BAOF is circumventing. Those messages ARE NOT false positives. Just because a human isn't using the file doesn't mean the file isn't in use by another process.

Try disabling antivirus on one of the machines during the backup, and let us know the results.

What OS is your ARCserve and ARCserver clients running on?

Getting the same problem with the Backup Open Files agent on one server. Seeing just about every file as open when its not, I know another process could be using certain files, but some of these files are Project files such as MS Word documents and Project drawings, and no client machines have any of the files open.

Hope someone figures this out.

It is potentially an Antivirus issue.
As a test disable the Real Time Monitor and see if the error appears. If it doesn't you may need to change the scanning direction of the RTM....
Check with your AV Vendor as to what the differences between Outgoing and Incoming is. Remember that the backup product makes an Open call to the file to back it up.
Potentially you could exclude ASRUNJOB.EXE from the RTM..
CA's AV is

Yes - Noton Antivirus was to blame. Once Norton had been instructed not to scan files that were opened for backup - all was sorted.

BUT - I have another query - job history is not being saved. - to be specific - Restore information is only being held for one day - then dumped. We have to constantly merge in tapes - and hope that the info stays in long enough to get it restored.
Ah - have you checked the prune settings ?
Yes - all have been set between 10 to 30 days.
This is happening to 5+ servers on our domain. Now - just recently it is happening to other servers in another adjacent domain - (there is no trust between the two)
CA's response has been to suggest that I start with a clean database - no joy - then a re-install - no joy
We have though managed to get hold of a CA account manager who is bring out a techy to investigate - we are SERIOUSLY looking for another backup product- but I will keep you informed if they succeed were countless others have failed.

In regards to the new problem arcservetherapy added to this thread. Restore has several views. Restore by Tree, Restore by Session, Restore by Query. Try Restore by Session or Query.
