I want a program that I could run that would show the current (maybe 30 second average) bandwith being used by an ethernet card.

I would like this program to run like the top command, which show process statistics and updates itself.

Is there a program like this?

I have found IPFM, but just want to check if anyone else has a favorite?

Also, it there a good tool to limit bandwidth for an ethernet device, or possibly IP's passing through that device?

thanks

i use mrtg: it can monitor many other thinks (routeurs, web servers,....)
i use it to monitor the bandwith of my linux&win web servers and >30 routers.

If you wanna keep a history of it, you should also try rrdtool!

IPtraf was exactly what I was looking for.

Thanks for all the feedback.
