I have a big problem which I am hoping some of you clever clogs out there may be able to help me with.

My company is getting an awful lot of emails addressed to somebody who does not exsist. All of this none exsistant email accounts mail is Junk email and totals about fourty % of our spam.

So I thought that the best way to do this is to phone up the ISP provider of this particular web site and ask them to only send email through addressed to sales@website.com or enquiries@website.com. They tell me they cant do that I am not sure that is the truth but none the less that is what they said.

Is there anyway I can block the email adressed to this one partcular person. I can block the ISP but that would mean blocking anything addressed through the web site which is not good.

Thanks for you help

Rachel

First, is your mail server in house? What version and OS are you running?

Next, if all of the email is bouncing, why is this a problem?

Can you clarify?

Dana

The email is not bouncing anything addressed @website.com gets forwarded to an employee of ours but because rickp stuff being sent through is all pornographic or advertising it gets trapped in our spam catcher.

We dont want to stop @website.com stuff coming through as some of it is sales enquiries etc.. but all rickp stuff is junk therefore want to stop it entering our email system

Yes the mail server is in house running on NT4 but the website email for this division of the company is external and pushed to our mail server to be forwarded.

Is there away of our web server deleting the mail as I can only find a away of doing it through a client.

Sorry if i was not clear before.

Rach

You could create a custom recipient with the offending email address, then hide it from the GAL ?

That would mean that as soon as they came in, they would go to the custom recipient and dissapear.

Ta will look into that I was more looking at having a filter or something on the server which auto deleted the mesages is that possible??

Well the incoming emails wouldn't get stored anywhere, they would effectively be deleted.

You can filter/block incoming mail from a certain address, but not too a certain address. A problem if they are coming from multiple addresses.

We use the method I mentioned first at our work place.

I have hit a problem the emails although have the offending address in the to box are actually being redirected so there are coming in addressed to our users other account no to rickp arrggggg..

Do you know how to get round this?

Ok so you are currently getting spam mail from many different addresses, all aimed at a legitimate address on your mailserver ?

OK the rickp mail address is the only mail address being redirected we have a problem with spam on.

Basically rickp is in the to box but it is coming through to eddie which is a legitimate address on the server

COmplicated isn't it.

*head explodes*

So there is a mailbex called eddie, with 2 email addresses - eddie and rickp. And the unk mail is going to rickp ?

Sorry I'm so slow here ;)

I sorted it by abusing the web hosts lots.

but here is the sinario

A division of our company called say website has its own website called website.com hosted else where anything addressed to anything@website.com (where anything can be anything)is forwarded on using redirection to eddie@mycompany.co.uk.

All the junk comes addressed to rickp@website.com we just wanted to stop this email getting through but allowing anything else addressed to website.com to be forwarded.

Thanks for all your time and patience reading back over this thread my head exploded twice.

Many thanks again for your time

RAchel
