Hi for the past couple months, anytime I am at the windows desktop or an app like excel or word, I get about 6-10 horizontal lines about .5 inches thick where the display is dimmer than the rest of the display. I have updated video drivers, reinstalled win98, and changed the resolution and the refresh rate. I have also hooked up another monitor, and it did the same thing. But the weird part is if I play a game with lots of graphics it is fine, no lines at all. Could the problem be bad video card, doesn't seem to make sense that it works with games and nothing else. Any help is appreciated, thanks

If you are overclocking the mem speed
on the video card i've seen this before .
Artifacts on display in 2D applications but okay
in D3D and OpenGL games .
If you are overclocking the video card ,try to
lower it's speed .

The video card is OEM and is about 3 years old, would I check the overclocking on jumpers,BIOS? thanks

I was more thinking about a Nvidia / Radeon card
that you was tweeking in the drivers or utility since
you were also playing games on the rig.
If the card was bundled with the puter and
you've done nothing ,it must be something else.
Maybe the cable or interference from desktop speaker
magnets or the main voltage .
Try the vid card in another computer to eliminate
that the card is bad.
