Hi,

we make a daily Backup of our Exchange Mailboxes (20 GB) but the Performance is very bad. The backup runs from 10pm to 10am. Is there any Tuning I can do to speed up the Backup? The Raid system and the Network is idle no bottlenecks here.

The Networker Server is Version 7.0 on Win 2000.
And the Exchange 2000 Server runs the 7.0 Networker Client with the 3.1 Exchange module.

How many Exchange MBs are you backing up? The extraction of individual mailboxes from the IS can be very processor intensive, and could take a long time. Have you tried backing up the whole IS? How long does that take?

there are over 100 Mailboxes. The Processor is over 60% idle. A backup of the whole IS takes 2h.

You could try binary splitting it.
e.g. set up one set of MSEXCH:MB 's for 50 mailboxes and another saveset for another 50.
See if one works in good time and one not.
If so, then look at binary splitting the one that didn't until you findthe culprit.

Of course, this would not work if it was your mailstore at fault, have you run an offline defrag?
