Simple one for you all. I cant seem to find the installer for the BackupExec Remote agent. We are running Version 8.6 and I need to backup 2 extra servers which do not contain tape drives. Is there a seperate installer for Remote agent?
If you go to Add/Remove Programs, select the Veritas programs, click change/remove (win2000).
Follow these steps on adding the remote agent.
¥ To install the Backup Exec Remote Agent for Windows NT/2000:
Note Backup Exec must already be installed before you can install options to remote systems.
1. Close the Backup Exec application.
2. Insert the Backup Exec Installation CD, and then when the browser screen appears, click Exit.
3. Click Start, point to Settings, click Control Panel, and then double-click Add/Remove Programs.
4. Do one of the following:
- For Windows 2000, at the Add/Remove Programs dialog box, select VERITAS Backup Exec 8.x, and then click Change/Remove.
- For Windows NT, on the Install/Uninstall tab on the Add/Remove Programs
Properties dialog box, select VERITAS Backup Exec 8.x, and then click Add/Remove.
The Program Maintenance dialog box appears.
5. Click Install Additional Options, and then click Continue.
6. Click Install Backup Exec options on remote computers.
The VERITAS Backup Exec Serial Numbers dialog box appears.
7. Enter a Remote Agent serial number for each remote server that you want to back up from this media server and then click Add. (In some installations, serial numbers may
not be required.)
The serial numbers appear in the Existing Serial Numbers field. To remove incorrect or unwanted serial numbers, select a number and click Remove.
8. After providing serial number information, click Next.
The Backup Exec Remote Install Options dialog appears.

9. Select Remote Agent for Windows NT/2000 from the list, and then click Next. The Start Copying Files dialog box appears.
10. Click Next.
The Select Domains for Remote Agent for Windows NT/2000 Installations dialog box appears.
A warning also appears indicating that Windows NT 4 systems should have Service Pack 4 or higher installed.
11. Click OK.
12. Select the domains containing the systems to which you want to install the Remote Agent, and then click Next.
13. (Optional) Select Manually enter domains to type in a domain name that does not appear in the list, and then click Next.
The Install Remote Agents for Windows NT/2000 dialog box appears. Only Windows NT 4 and later systems are displayed.
14. Select the destination systems to which you want to install the Remote Agent.
15. (Optional) Select Manually add additional systems to type in a system name that does not appear in the list, and then click Next. A summary screen is displayed.
16. Click Next to continue.
The Enter Administrator Account Information dialog box appears.
17. Enter the username and password of an account that has administrative rights on the remote servers to which you want to install the Remote Agent, and then click Next.
Note If you do not want to install the Remote Agent on the selected system, click Skip. Installation continues with the next selected system. If the selected system has Backup Exec installed, you are prompted that installing the
Remote Agent may not be necessary.
18. Click Yes to continue installing the Remote Agent on the selected system, or click No to skip installation and continue with the next selected system.
The Remote Agent is installed on the remote systems. If you selected more than one system to install the Remote Agent to, you are prompted to enter credentials for each
of those systems.
19. You may be prompted to reboot the remote system to which you installed the Remote Agent. If you are prompted to reboot, the Remote Agent service will not start until the system is rebooted.
Otherwise, click Finish to complete the installation.
20. To determine if the Remote Agent is installed on a remote server, right-click the remote server and then from the shortcut menu select Properties. The status of the
Remote Agent is displayed.
If u have problems with the remote installation method mentioned above, just do as follows.
Browse down the Backup exec installation CD,
x:\Winnt\Install\Eng\i386Copy the directory NTAA (NT Agent Accelerator)
to the server, on witch you want to install the agent on.
From a command prompt on the actual server, just browse to the NTAA directory and run "setupaa.cmd" that gives you an date/time stamp, when the installation is carried out.
