Backup to Laptop

This may sound like a really stupid question, but is it possible to backup the Reload directories to my Laptop. I am aware of the old PCSoftdisk at BC7, but do not with to get involved with that thing again. It would be ideal to be able to copy / backup to my C: drive for storage to a CD (for archive).

I do currently backup to external optical drive (using FISBI) but need to know either way if any of you out there do this as a common practice.

Which BC-release do you have in your MD110?
If BC10 or BC11, do you have access to a NIU-board?

Most of my sites are BC9 (IPU) but I do have a few sites with BC10&11 with NIU.

With BC10, BC11 and a NIU it is very convenient to use FTP. I do that a lot and copying a REL from the HDU directly to a PC is a matter of minutes. Just access the LAN-port on the NIU from an FTP-client. The file system on the HDU will now appear. You can choose from which point in the file hierarchy you want the copying to start.

With IPU it´s a bit harder. It is possible to equip your Laptop with an SCSI interface and connect it to the SCSI bus in the MD110. You have to configure a part of your PC´s disk as an additional disk in the MD110 backup system and copy files in normal MD110 fashion with FICPI or FISBI.

Think these issues have been discussed here before so there ought to be more information around.

I have an USB to SCSI adapter from adaptec to make an backup on my laptop from systems lower then BC10. The adapter is installed correctly but I cannot accees the HDU. Can you explain a little bit more in detail how it will work?
