backup to http server failing

I am trying to backup CM config file sto HTTP serveron the same network but it is failing with error,

I have checked i can login to http server with that credentials.

any ideas? CM 5.x, s8720

backups only support: FTP, SFTP (Secure FTP), and SCP (Secure Copy). Who told you you could use an HTTP server for backups? That is not correct.

from the browser

or from linux "sudo ftpserv on"

Then try your backup again.

Can we install WS FTP module application on http server and then backup?

backups can be done manually from linux command line or you can use the web browser with cron jobs that run nightly, weekly, or whenever.

from linux, below is syntax for ftp, sftp, scp

sudo backup -b --verbose -d ftp://administratorassword@9.102.36.56/avaya/server -c --xln os security
sudo backup -b --verbose -d sftp://administratorassword@9.102.36.56/avaya/server -c --xln os security
sudo backup -b --verbose -d scp://administratorassword@9.102.36.56/avaya/server -c --xln os security

avayabrain, you probably should setup and external FTP/SFTP or SCP server on your LAN, as backing up to the S-Series server doesn't do you much good, if the server crashes.... Think about it.

We sometimes, in a pinch, if we have S8720's/S8730's, will backup the "active" server, to the "standby" server, so that the backup is on a different server, but the best thing is to use an external FTP, SFTP, or SCP server.

Also, if you do want to stay with using the S-Series server for the backup, if you stick with "SCP", you won't have to worry about enabling the service, it's always enabled, unlike FTP, which only stays working for a short time period (like 10-15 minutes, when you enable it)

Did you try it again after turning ftp on?
The advantage of doing this from linux command is you see immediate success or failures.

You can run backup commands on each server then use scp to copy the files to other servers.

This will create files on the server you run this from and put files in /var/home/ftp/pub

sudo backup -b -d /var/home/ftp/pub --verbose xln os security audix-tr-name-msg

then use scp to copy files to another server:

scp /var/home/ftp/pub/security_server1_122754_20080420.tar.gz administrator@9.102.36.56:/avaya/server

this will authenticate with the password for administrator
