I'm pretty sure most versions can it is called Backup-to-Disk Folder, or you could select Removable Backup-to-Disk Devices. This is in the Devices catagory. I know version 10 does it for sure.
Here is the what Veritas states, unfortunately, I did not read this until after I invested heavily on some large USB2 hard drives, it works, but I wanted to swap hard drives out so that I may rotate the media offsite... maybe in the next release..
You mentioned that you were not able to swap the hard drives? Is it not possible to simply change to a different removable HDD and assign it the same drive letter?
per the link "Backup Exec does not support swapping different hard drives in an attempt to use different physical devices for the same backup-to-disk folder in Backup Exec".
You could use two usb drives and just do separate backups, it works fine.. but when you trying to backup for, lets say a week, and then switch out the hard drives, keeping the same drive letter, Backup Exec looks for the previously backed up media, when no found, it errors and you will basically have to reconfigure the backup job.. definitely was not what i was looking for...
Now I get what you're saying. My policy for backups are Inrecemental Backups (Mon-Thurs) and then Full Backup - Reset Archive Bit on Friday. I would think that with this sort of policy, it could be possible to swap disks every week - as it is supposed to reset the archiving.
The reason for having rotation, is because I need to keep old data for at least 1 week before overwriting it. You think it will work?
