I have a couple of external usb HD that I want to use as devises form my backups. I am trying to decide whether to create a "Backup-to-disk folder" or a "Removable backup-to-disk folder".

I am currently backing up data from 4 servers with 1 full backup (~ 23GB uncompressed) and 6 incremental (~ 7GB uncompressed)per week. I also rotate my usb HD and bring 1 home with me every night. Backup Exec v9.1

The problem I am having is that with a regular "Backup-to_disk folder" I have to pause and resume the device every time I unplug and replug the USB HD. Which is every night since I swap the drives every night. If you do not pause and resume the device the backup job does not run, it waits, which creates a big pain in my ... (I think you get the picture)

The problem I am having with "Removable Backup_to_disk forders" is that it doesn't support current jobs, slowing down the backup process such that the backup is still running when I come in.

Just looking for some advise, tips or pros and cons from those that may have implemented either solution.

Thanks

What you are trying to do is not supported by VEritas. The removable backup to disk is suppose to be used for cd/dvd/optical drives. The reason why it is not supported is backup exec applies a guid to the hd and when you remove the hd it can cause major issues with your backups. The best thing to do is to create a backup to disk folder for each individual hd and then set your jobs to run to the specific drive each night. If you have 2 drives set your mon, wed, fri job to drive 1 and your tue, thurs, backup to drive b. Other than that you will have to keep delig with your headache.

Thanks for the reply, that will save me some head scratching
