Hi All,

We are running BE 8.6 here with a Seagate Python 4 tape autoloader.

Backups have been running fine for over 2 years, and I have tested restores on a regular basis.

However, today I went to test a restore and when I loaded the tapes into the tape drive, it says they are all "blank media".... I have gone through the last months worth of tapes and they are all coming up with the same message.

I have not changed the storage location, and to my knowledge nothing has been near them that would cause any damage.

Has anyone seen anything like this before.

Maybe the catalog is corrupted. I had this problem over a year ago and I found a document on the BE site that tell you how to recover the catalog.

Try the following:

1. Inventory the tapes, which you've probably done already.

2. Inventory the tapes on a different BackupExec 8.6 server to verify they are not blank.

3. You should check knowledgebase for some tech docs.

4. re-install BackupExec as last resort.

Hi Guys...

Well, I finally figured it out. Apparently for some reason the BE program lost its connection to the local media server. (Don't know how this happened!)

Once I went to "Network", "Connect to Media Server" and entered in the correct info, everything is working fine.

Weird, as I have never seen this happen before.

Thanks for all the help.
