Hi,
I just noticed that our weekly full backup is taking 12 hours to backup 334GB of data. Details are:
------------------------
Data Size: 334GB
Transfer Time: 12:13:17
Throughput: 26.75 GB/hr
No. of Objects: 1,246,618
------------------------

Last month the same file share backup was quicker ie:
------------------------
Data Size: 322GB
Transfer Time: 7:25:53
Throughput: 43.50 GB/hr
No. of Objects: 1,224,942
------------------------

But here's the intersting bit. If I do an OnDemand backup of a folder with 956 files, the throughput is higher ie:
------------------------
Data Size: 1.5GB
Transfer Time: 0:01:40
Throughput: 50.43 GB/hr
No. of Objects: 956
------------------------

If I backup just one file its amazing:
------------------------
Data Size: 1.82GB
Transfer Time: 0:00:43
Throughput: 154.46 GB/hr
No. of Objects: 1
------------------------

Are the figures of 12Hrs acceptable for 334GB of data backup ? Are there any averages that I can compare to ?

Our setup is a fibre SAN, where the data is sitting on arrays. Hosted via a Win2k3 Cluster.
CV uses private gigabit ethernet switch to communicate with the client serves.

Appreciate any info.
Thanks

You will always see fluctuations in throughput speed as there are many influencing factors.

How many streams you got set? ...try increasing them.

Or split the job into smaller sub-clients.

more files = slower throughput....and you have a lot of files ;-)

Thanks Birky,

The Storage Policy has 5 streams.

I might try and split the job into smaller sub-clients.

cheers

Have you put on SP3PostPack 1 - it sped up our backups

Thanks Dall,
I haven't applied the Post pack yet. Will give it a go and see what happens.

cheers
