Hi,

Does anyone know of a good FAQ regarding backup and restore of FILE GROUPS?

We are looking into this method for one of our large databases. However, the DBA here says he could never get the restore part to work (the backup worked ok).

Does anyone know of a good resource, or can share any of their insight/experiences with this type of backup.

Thanks

Have you checked on the FAQ section of this forum and the Microsoft SQL Server: Programming forum yet?

One thing on filegroups, you have to have all of them to restore and I think you have to restore the primary before you can restore the others. Books Online has some information on the backup and restoration of filegroups, also.

Other than that, I haven't seen anything specific to that subject. Sorry.

I've never actually backed up a filegroup by it self. Manilly because when restoring you'll have to deal with the tables in the restored filegroup being out of sync.

How big of a database are you talking about?
