hi there everyone,

i've got an old 20gig drive thats being used as my c: drive in my pc. i just bought a new 120gig and i would like to know how to completely backup the old drive to the new one so that all i have to do is just remove the old one and replace it with the new one.

(i dont' want to have to re-install all that software and the os again.)

what is the best/free software to do the backup?

i tried "maxblast" from the maxtor site, it copied all the files to the new drive, but when i put it as the new c: drive, the 120gig refuses to bootup. all the files are there but just not bootable.

i tried to use "diskwizard 2003" from the seagate site but it won't work since the new drive is a maxtor not seagate model. (it checks the drives model)

i'm using win2000 pro.

any suggestions?
thanks

thanks 4 the reply.... i appreciate it,

but i just got it done using "Maxblast 3" for windows, from the maxtor support site. i was using their "dos" version by mistake and that's why it didn't work.

it seems the dos version is to copy drives with no OS on it while the windows version can copy existing OS drives.

the windows version ran smoothly and the new drive booted-up perfectly :)

Although I'm quite fond of Norton AV, for cloning I prefer Caspar XP. It's not as well-known, but it's really great when you're fed up with problems after cloning bootable hard disks.

Peace,

Yellow
