Hi guys,

I'm using Veritas 9.0. Server A has Veritas installed on it and is also the file server. Server B is the exchange server. I am backing up Exchange and files of server B on Server A. When Veritas finishes to backup, it says that the backup job failed, because there are some corrupt files inside some email messages (of server B), and because access is denied to some files inside the top information store of some users.

1. How can I locate this files and/or solve this error (access denied)?

2. How can I skip/solve the corrupt files error? (the files are attached to email messages).

Did you manage to solve this issue, I am ahving the same and it is annoying me.

Regards
Ian.

I solved it. Go to Job Setup/Selections and deselect all the emails/files that are listed as corrupted in the log, and that's all!. Sorry but it seems that's the only way to make it work...

Yep, seen that but it doesn't work for Exchange

"How to prevent Backup Exec for Windows NT and Windows 2000 from failing a backup operation when encountering corrupt files (excluding Microsoft Exchange files)."

I have just spent all day excluding the corrupt emails from being backed up, what fun that was (NOT!).

It will probably work until of course it finds another 'corrupt' file.

Cheers
Ian.

You can minimize the problem if you go into the registry on your backup server to the key

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\VERITAS\Backup Exec\Engine\Backup

Set Fail Jobs on Corrupted Files to 0. If you have some attachments in email in old versions of Word or Excel, they will sometimes show up as corrupted even if they're ok. This has been a problem for me since version 7 and I got the fix from Veritas a long time ago.

These files may not be corrupt but may be in use byt some one or some process.
