I'm using Backup Exec 8.5 to backup my Exchange 5.5 server, but I have been getting failed backups now for over two weeks, which is not a good thing. Here is what has happened, I just took over this job and the guy who was here before me had his username and password on all the services for Backup Exec but I have changed that now, since I did these changes I have been getting failed backups for Exchange but everything else has been going good. The error message I get is: "The Exchange Store service is not responding. Backup set aborted.
^ ^ ^ ^ ^
Unable to open the item Directory - skipped." Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Erla

the service account needs to be member of backup operators group and logon as a service too. Also needs to be an exchange administrator service.

Then it should all work.

It also needs to have an email account

The account is a member of the backup operators. However, when you say the account has to logon as a service too, do you mean the services on the media server or? And what do you mean when you say it also needs to be an exchange administrator service? The account has an email account.

Backup Exec service accounts need to have the following:-

Member of Domain Admins Group - or if your workplace doesn't like this, must be part of the Local Administrators group.

Rights - Logon as a Service and Act as Part of the operating System.
Also in 9.0 of backup exec, needs the right, Create a token object.

If backing up exchange mailboxes, also needs a mailbox setup on the server.
Also for Exchange 5.5 needs to have admin privleges (Service Account Admin is best) to Org, Site and Configuration containers.
