Your remote agent isn't working / installed properly so it is trying to backup Exchange on the local machine and it isn't installed.

I re-installed the agent and I'm still getting the same error! Worth me upgrading from 8.5 to 8.6?

I had the problem and upgraded to 8.6 and still had it after reinstalling the agent. Did you ever solve it?

I just started getting this error this past weekend. I'm using 8.6 on NT4 SP6 and backing up Exchange 5.5. I'd love to see how this one gets solved!

Good news. I downloaded the newest version of Backup Exec and installed it. Originally, I had version 8.6 build 3808. The build that I downloaded was 3878. While installing build 3878, I reinstalled the remote agent on my exchange server and rebooted both the backup server and the exchange server. Low and behold, the Exchange backup started to work again. If you're still having problems, you may want to try installing build 3878.
