backup exec

Final error: 0xa000848c - Unable to attach to one of the drives.

This error drives me nuts, i have this sinds a couple of weeks on the server i need to backup. I have browsed the internet ena backup exec site and the normal things like credentials and stuff isn't the isseu here. The remote agent shouldnt be the isseu either cause its the same machine where the backup exec is running on i am trying to backup.

Someone had this before ?

Problem solved it was a credential thing after all the MSSQL$BACKUPEXEC service was running on local system account, this should be good but i changed this to domain admin account and now the testrun says 100% ok.

I have a Windows 2003 backup server running Veritas backup Exec software. I backup this server and another server.

I have been backing up for months and all backups are clean. All of the sudden last night when it went to backup, I am getting the following error:

Unable to attach to \\MUSTANG\D$.
Access is denied.

Microsoft did have an update that the computer downloaded and installed automatically. That is the only thing that changed.

Do you have any ideas other than the Microsoft update?

can you access that share if you try mapping a drive from the backup server using the same credentials that the backup exec service uses.
If not then that is why it is not working. Use an id with admin rights and start the backup exec service with that ID. does that solve the problem
Also I had a problem once but I seem to remember that this was way back in NT4 and that was that the drive$ shares kept disappearing. Just check that th share is still there

Yes, the server can "see" the other one in Network Places and even connect to all files. (Both servers have same User names and password and are administrators)

I tried mapping a drive as well, and got the same result. I also tried defining different user defined shares within Backup Exec (example \\192.168.201.??\C$ instead of \\MUSTANG\C$ and still get the same result.

I uninstalled that Microsoft update and still same result. I am going to try and reinstall the Backup Exec remote agent and see what happens.

Update,

I have fixed the problem. The services on the backup server itself was set to Local System Account instead of the ID and password of the remote server.
