Hi,

I've just setup our Backup Exec PC 9 running on Win Server 2003 to backup a shared Apple mac folder.

I haven't installed the remote agent on the mac.I added the Macs IP to Backup exec as a user defined selection.

Thta backup seems to run with no problems and I can restore from tape. I do get an error on the backup report saying that the remote agent didn't initialise.

What is the remote agent for, what does it do?

Without installint a MAC agent what you doing is not supported by symantec/veritas. Thats why it reporting you need the agent to perform a proper backup. THe agent doesn most of the work before the information is sent to the media server. There are no promises with backup/restore without using an agent.

Thanks, Since I posted I've discovered that we have do actually have a mac agaent but it came with backup exec 11 which we have installed in another office.

I'll give it a shot to see if version 9 server recognises the version 11 agent.

Has anyone tried this? Probably not...

Thanks anyway.

No 11d is the remote agent is totally different.

You can download Legacy/Unix/MAc agent for 9.x

Ah, thanks Steve.

Slight problem though, when the backup runs it fails with the following error:

Backup - PORTFOLIOUnable to attach to PORTFOLIO/portfolio.
Unable to attach to PORTFOLIO/portfolio.
Backup - PORTFOLIO/volumes_portfolio Access denied to directory /.
Directory PORTFOLIO/volumes_portfolio\ was not found, or could not be accessed.
None of the files or subdirectories contained within will be backed up.

I can see the files perfectly well in the selection list, I didn't setup any passwords during the install either.

How do I edit the agent.cfg file?
