I have Veritas Backup Exec 8.5 installed on a Windows 2000 server. I also have the Remote Admin installed on my desktop PC to interact with the server.

I cannot seem to connect to the backup server using the remote admin piece. I get the following errors depending on how I try to login through the Remote Admin:

"The credentials supplied conflict with an existing set of credentials". This is using the administrator account and password assigned through setup on the backup server.

When I try to connect using the default connection, I receive the following:

"Invalid catalog and/or data path".

Does Backup Exec on the Server need to be set up using a Domain account or is a local admin account sufficient. I tried a fix suggested by Veritas to fix the registry keys, but this still does not work.

Thanks!

The conflictin credentials problem is caused by you already having a connection to a share, any share, to the server. This other connection is connected using a different user account. If you need to connect using this particular account then pop out to a CMD prompt and run NET USE with no switches. This will show all connections. It may be an RPC connection that will not show in Windows Explorer. To get rid of the connection just type NET USE \\servername\share /D.

The second error is probably caused by the fact that you connected with an account that has no rights to the file/directory. You could check the permissions and access rights of the connecting account.

Also remember that if you are connecting with an account that is not a domain account and you have the same account name on both servers then you will run into SID problems.

Hope this helps.
