Hi All,
I have Oracle server and I am trying to backup the databases (there are six altogether). When selecting the DBF files through the backup selections tab I can see all DBF files apart from the dbf's in one database. These ones appear 'greyed out'. Has anybody experienced this? I am using Backup Exec 8.6 with the Backup exec oracle agent running on the oracle server.
Cheers
Neil

Does anybody have any experience baking up Oracle Servers? I am totally scratching my head now after re-installing the Oracle agent and re-configuring it. Still with the same symptoms. Veritas are not aware of this issue and I can not find any help relating to this matter.
Any help more than welcome!)

The major issues that we've encountered are mostly related to permissions in the oracle database. The agent is running some SQL and doesn't have access to sys tables. This has changed from 8.6 to 9.2.

The easiest way to find out which permissions are missing is to place the agent into debug mode:

Log in as sys on the instance and grant the permissions and try again.

In 8.6, everything worked fine with the permissions that the documentation said the backup account required. In 9.2, "select on sys.ts$" had to be granted so that the tablespaces could be viewed in the browser.

Also, another problem that we encountered was the need to restart both the normal BackupExec agent along with the BackupExec Oracle agent. This solved a permissions error which stopped us seeing any instances on the server. Or it could have been because we were running NT4.....still....

Hope this helps :)

Thank you for this jm4957,
I will look at this over the next few days and let you know my results. Our external Oracle support people seemed to have disappeared because of this issue.
Thanks

Hi all…. again,
I know this is a long one but I have figured out what is happening and it is the file attributes. The archive tick is not on the dbf files for theses databases. My problem now is this attribute keeps vanishing off the files. Dose anybody know what may be causing the dbf files to lose the archiving attribute from the file?
Thank you,
O.G
