It appears that Backup Exec 8.6 was installed and they used Administrator as the user. When we changed the Administrator password the services in Backup Exec 8.6 failed on our next re-boot.
Our solution was to back up the veritas folder.
Make note of the original path. Uninstall the Backup Exec, take the remove program option and take the option to only uninstall program files.
Re-boot and then re-install. Make sure your path is exactly the same as before (ie C:\Program Files\Veritas\Backup Exec\NT). During install you will be asked for your username and password.
This should keep all of your history, catalogues etc....

Hi,

when backupexec starts, you have to log in as a user, and the backup jobs that you create all will log in as that user and use that users rights to the file system to backup your data. if you created jobs with the user account Administrator, then when you change the administrator password, you have to shut down backup exec, log in as administrator with the new password, delete your old jobs, and re-create them.

Most people I have talked to reccomend that you have a backup user (i.e. bkupexec) on your network, make the password very strong, and use him to create all your backup jobs.

hope that helps,
Josh
