Hey all,

I have a 5-tape backup system and am using Backup Exec 9.0. The backups have been setup using the New Job Wizard from the Job Setup tab. Somehow the backups got out of synch and now no differential backups are working, I am getting a "No appendable media could be mounted" failure error.

I have 6 tapes I use. I want to keep one tape off-site (at my house) and then swap it with a newer backup each week. What is the best way to set this backup scheme right?

It setup to do a Full backup every Friday night. Then differential backups Mon-Thurs nights. There is also a problem in my 'Media Sets' under the Media tab. My tapes are labeled Daily1, Daily2, Daily3, 4, 5, 6. There is only 1 tape (Daily 1) listed in the Rotation - Differential group and all the others are in the Rotation - Full group and they say Not Appendable.

One of my problems is that I'm not sure how this backup is working. It does a full backup on Friday to lets say, Daily2. Then on Monday night it does a differential backup to another tape or the same tape?

Please help me get my backups back in synch :)

Thanks,
Ryan

if you swapping the tape everyday then personally my favoured setting is just set the job up to blat no matter waht tape is in drive with a full backup

i dont like diffs and incrementals etc - backups dont take long so backup the lot -

I dont swap the tape everyday. I'm not even sure which tape to swap out. Full backup Friday nights, differential backups mon-thurs nights, and have one tape off-site that gets swapped every Monday. Isnt this setup commonly used?
