I'm trying to backup the mail boxes in Exchange 5.5 with Backup Exec 8.6 with the exchange module, but when I select "Microsoft Exchange Mailboxes" it prompts me for "unique Mailbox name", which is 'zzsvc' (the service account), but it does not accept this mailbox or any other mailboxes that I try. Backup Exec keeps telling me: "Backup Exec could not attach to this mailbox". The 2000/NT Remote Agent is installed on both machines along with the module.

Any ideas?

The following need to be installed on the backup server...

- Exchange Administrator
- Exchange Client...generally Outlook no later than 2000...2002 does not work as you will receive RPC call failed errors...
- Backup service account must have logon as service rights and domain admin rights as well as Service Admin rights at your site level in Exchange.
- Make sure the Remote Agent Service on the remote machine is set to logon with the backup service account.

With the exchange admin, you need to make sure that if your exchange server is patched, there is a .dll that needs to be copied over to the backup server to maintain the same version across both machines...since I'm not at work at the moment I can't remember the name of the exact .dll though.

Once that is done, log in as your backup account to establish the first job definition and connect to the mailboxes.

After that point you can go back to logging on as your normal admin account and you should be set.

Follow up:

EDBBCLI.DLL is the dll you need to make sure is the same on both your exchange server and the backup server. If you patched the exchange server, this dll will be different and you will want to copy the one from exchange to the system32 directory on the backup server.

That should be all you need to do.
