Anyone using this combo or something similar?

I just purchased an HP AIO600 Storageworks 3TB disk system. I've never used one of these systems before, so I thought I'd get some input from others. I am very familiar with the backup Exec line and tape changers.

1. The Storageworks system runs Windows Storage Server 2003. Can I install Symantec Backup Exec right on this server, or do I still need to use a different host server for Backup Exec?

Let me know. If I have to still use a separate host server for Backup Exec, I heard I need to hook the host server up to the disk backup unit via "iSCSI" or something? I was told I can hook an RJ45 cable up to the second NIC of a server running Backup Exec, load some special encapsulation software on the host server, then the server will talk over the RJ45 on the second NIC using this "iSCSI" technology.

Any of this make sense? Let me know and thanks for your feedback.

If you using 11d and want to take advantage of GRT features in 11d I would install backup exec directly on the storage server.

Thanks Steveot.

What does "GRT" stand for and what are the advantages?

Thanks for letting me know about installing Backup Exec directly on the StorageWorks server. I was hoping I could do that.

GRT - granualar restore technology. You can restore email items from information store backup only, resrore active directory object from system state backuo and sharepoint ojects individual documents.

There are several technote about setting up backup to disk and best pratice. I would highly urge you to take a look at them before planning how your going to setup backup to disks
