Hello,
I have a Windows 2000 sp4 PDC that is also running Exchange 2K sp3. I need to format this machine and I am using Seagate backup exec v.8.6 with the Exchange Option installed so I am backing up the Exchange data nightly.

My question is, assuming I perform a good backup of the system state and the exchange data how do I restore the system to the domain and install exchange again...

What special steps do I need to perform to restore the data...?

Thanks
Tony

Well the first steps would be to install windows 2000, create the domain again, install exchange, install Backup Exec, and then restore from tape overwriting files. That should do it (although i've never acually had to do it myself yet.. knock on wood)

Note, make sure when you reinstall the OS and Exchange that you use the same versions. For example, if you previously had exchange standard installed, do not try to restore your standard edition backup over top of your exchange enterprise edition installation.

I also have a BDC in this domain so I will just join this pc back to the same domain and name it the same. Should I restore the system state data back to the same pc?

If anyone can respond that has actually had to do this before that would be very reassuring because I know the textbook answers but I want to know the real life experiences.

Thanks
Tony
